Toongabbie Township Group Summary 2023

The Toongabbie Township Group (TTG) is a group of residents or property owners who advocate for and/or organise activities within the Toongabbie township that:

  • Allows for sharing of information, ideas and learnings between all members and community
  • Facilitates effective planning, development and implementation of community projects
  • Work in partnership with other local community groups and associations

Achievements of the TTG in 2023 included:

  • ANZAC Day Dawn Service
  • Published the Toongabbie News. Thank you to Shazelle Witt for your time volunteering as the publisher. The newsletter is printed by MJB Printing in Toongabbie with a grant from the Latrobe City Council.
  • Maintained the Toongabbie website (https://toongabbie.vic.au) and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/toongabbie.vic.au)
  • Provided Welcome Information Packs for new residents
  • Successfully obtained a grant application through Victoria Remembers for a cenotaph at the Village Green. Thank you to the Recreation Reserves Committee for the assistance in obtaining this grant.
  • Provided free face painting at the Wellington/ Latrobe Lions Club Christmas Market thanks to a grant from Latrobe City Council
  • Helped cover the cost of hall hire and lollies for Santa to give to children (and the young at heart!) at the Christmas carols. This was also with funding from Latrobe City Council.
  • Donated funds from the Drum Muster to the Mechanics Halls committee
  • Engaged in excellent discussions with Cowwarr artist Jo Caminiti who is creating Railway Dog sculptures for Glengarry, Toongabbie and Cowwarr. The Toongabbie dog will be placed at the old Toongabbie Railway site. More information can found here.
