The Toongabbie Butter Factory Co. Ltd. was formed in 1900 as a cooperative dairy company. The company purchased the building and plant from the defunct Rosedale Butter Factory Company. The factory was established on crown allotment 5 section 7 next to the water supply reserve. The Toongabbie factory operated for nine years. In June 1909 the shareholders resolved to wind up the company. The directors then appointed liquidators to dispose of the building, plant and land. The reason given for this step was the bad seasons and little dairying in the district.
A full history of the company is given in Harding and Ries, Toongabbie, Gippsland : A gateway to the Walhalla Goldfields, pages 44-46.
