Cowwarr Landcare Group is a small but dedicated group aimed at Natural Resource Management of public and private land in and around the Cowwarr area.

The group meets first Wednesday of every month 7pm at the Catchment Management Authority depot in Cowwarr.

Activities include:

·        weed control on the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail and local roadsides

·        tree plantings

·        information sharing events

·        the Swing Bridge Reserve Wetlands Project as detailed below.

Cowwarr Landcare Group has obtained a lease from Southern Rural Water (SRW) for the area abutting the Cowwarr Weir and aims to beautify this currently unused piece of land. A management plan has been produced which details wetlands, board walks and even information boards, but the group is currently focused on weed control and some revegetation with indigenous species.

SRW have been very supportive of the Cowwarr Landcare Group and its vision for the site and SRW allows the group to house its tool shed on land at the weir.

The Cowwarr Landcare group has been successful in obtaining a federal government grant through the Caring For Our Country Initiative and is planning to have a community planting as part of national tree day.
