Cowwarr Weir

Cowwarr Weir is a popular location for many recreational activities such as walking, swimming, kayaking, picnics and bird watching.  The weir is located approximately 7.5km from the main township of Toongabbie (north along Victoria St).

Further information on Cowwarr Weir can be found on the Southern Rural Water website

Southern Rural Water and Wellington Shire allows Recreation Vehicle (RV) overnighters to camp free of charge at Cowwarr Weir for no more than 48 hours.

There is an area allocated for people wanting to stay and good signage on site. Eligibility is limited to vehicles and people that do not leave any trace, so camping with tents, camper trailers etc is not allowed. Campers must abide by the rules indicated by signage at Cowwarr Weir including a ten ton limit on the bridge and no dumping point for waste.

It is important to note that the facilities can be closed in short notice if the area experiences emergencies such as fires, floods or works on site. Please ring Southern Rural water on 5139 3100 and check to ensure the camping area is open first as part of your planning.

Cowwarr Landcare Group has obtained a lease from Southern Rural Water (SRW) for the area abutting the Cowwarr Weir and aims to beautify this currently unused piece of land. A management plan has been produced which details wetlands, board walks and even information boards, but the group is currently focused on weed control and some revegetation with indigenous species.
