Wellington Latrobe Lions Club
The Wellington/Latrobe Lions Club are actively involved in disaster relief funding for causes including the Queensland Flood Relief, The Victorian Flood Relief, The New Zealand Earthquake Relief and the Japanese Earthquake Relief.
The Club has donated many thousands of dollars for various disaster reliefs over the most recents years.
This money is primarily raised through community fundraisers including catering, sausage sizzles and collection tins.
In addition the Wellington-Latrobe Lions Club also runs the Lions Australian Spinal Cord Fellowships, a category B National Lions Project. With the money collected around Australia our club has been able to forward on to StepAhead Australia (spinal cord research) over $150,000 since July 2010.
George and Barbara Owen of Toongabbie founded the organisation StepAhead Australia in 1998, following their son Sam’s diving accident leaving him as a quadriplegic. The Fellowships were established to support scientists and their research into a cure for spinal paralysis here in Australia. This is where Lions have come in to make this happen.
The Lions Australia Spinal Cord Fellowship is all about Lions raising funds to help StepAhead Australia find the cure for chronic spinal cord injury. In supporting this research Lions give great hope and support to the many Australians who suffer from Spinal Cord injury.

There are over 12,000 with spinal cord injury and there is a new injury on average every day. They all confront a life of great disability, loss of independence loss of work and relationships. What Lions do is give them the chance to walk again.
